❄️ Winter Storm Preparation Tips for Texas Residents

A winter storm is expected to arrive Friday afternoon and may last several days. Please take time now to prepare your home and family.

     Protect Your Water Pipes

  • Wrap exposed outdoor pipes with insulation or towels.

  • Cover outdoor faucets with freeze covers or thick cloth.

  • Disconnect garden hoses and drain them.

  • Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate.

  • Let indoor faucets drip slowly during hard freezes.

  • Know where your main water shutoff valve is located.

     Store Emergency Water

  • Fill bathtubs and containers with water for household use.

  • Have bottled drinking water on hand.

  • If power is lost, the water system should be powered by a backup generator. While our backup generators are reliable, equipment can occasionally fail. Please always be prepared for a possible water service interruption during severe weather.

     Prepare Your Home

  • Check heating systems now.

  • Have extra blankets and warm clothing ready.

  • Close garage doors to reduce cold air.

  • Seal drafty doors and windows if possible.

    Power Outage Readiness

  • Charge phones and backup batteries.

  • Have flashlights ready (avoid candles if possible).

  • If using generators, keep them outdoors only.

     Travel Carefully

  • Avoid driving during icy conditions.

  • Bridges and overpasses freeze first.

     Protect Pets and Livestock

  • Bring pets indoors.

  • Provide extra feed and unfrozen water for animals.

     Stay Informed

  • Monitor local weather updates.

  • Follow emergency announcements.
